Gigante
Hybrid documentary feature

Gigante

A rumble wakes Gigante. The great "Ceiba de la Libertad" has fallen. Many weep and recall the infamous prophecy: when the roots supporting its surface died, Gigante would enter a slow and constant sinking.

A rumble wakes Gigante. The great "Ceiba de la Libertad" has fallen. Many weep and recall the infamous prophecy: when the roots supporting its surface died, Gigante would enter a slow and constant sinking.

Strange things begin to happen and the inhabitants document them through their cell phones. They film how they adapt to the inevitable fall. Through archive footage, we discover life around a tree whose roots upheld the imagination of an entire village.

Director's Note

Gigante is not just the name of a town — it is a promise of permanence that time, and a dying root, eventually broke. We filmed alongside the inhabitants as they learned — phone in hand — to document their own sinking. The archive is not evidence: it is the act of looking without turning away.
